Universal Keying Interface is $15 +$3 for US first class mail |

Want to key up that old DX20 with your computer? How about using your WinKey on a old classic? Then of course there's fixing the chirp caused by a electronic keyer that won't work correctly with your rig such as the HD-1410 and the SB-014. And let's not forget about keying an external amplifier. Well if you want to do any of the above simply and on the cheap, then the universal keying module is just what you need. The universal keying interface takes any high to low key line and drives a high power MOSFET. The key line is optical coupled to the MOSFET so your radio or keyer does not see the device under load. There are only four wires needed, power, ground, key in and key out. The single hole mounting makes installing the universal keying interface very simple.
While the main goal of the universal keying interface is to provide a buffer between a transmitter and a solid state CW keyer, it will also provide external amplifier switching too. The universal keying interface will only work with positive key lines from the amplifier. So, you're good to go with most amplifiers, with the exception of the SB-200 and the Collins 30-L1. The universal keying interface is easy to build, but it is quite small! About the size of a quarter! Designed to go inside a radio or amplifier, the universal keying interface will be just as happy living in a small plastic or metal box. Just supply it with power and ground and you're good to go. Remember the Universal Keying interface will only work on positive key lines! ******Now you can key negative lines with just a few changes****** Best of all is the price, like the universal keying interface, the price is very small too. The universal keying interface in kit form is only $15 +$3 for first class US mail. Order several! You'll find all kinds of use for the universal keying interface! |

The universal keying interface is built on a very small double sided PCB with silk screen and solder mask on both sides |

Whoa! By changing a part or two, the Universal keying interface will now handle grid blocked rigs like the Drake 2NT, the Heathkit HW-16 and so on! Instructions included!! |

In the two photos above, the universal keying interface has been installed inside a Dentron GLA1000 amplifier. I had to add a small 7812 regulator to supply the module with a safer voltage. Without the regulator, the 30+ volts would have been a tad too much for the MOSFET. A sticky nylon mount is used to hold the module to one side of the meter. The universal keying module is also installed inside this old Heathkit HW-8. A 1/2 inch male/female spacer was used to support the pcb above the original audio board on the side of the rig. |
