The Drake AC4R is a simple to build kit. All parts except for the bias trimmer resistor are mounted on a single double sided PCB. This
board mounts on the end cap of the power transformer.
You get all the parts shown, plus all the hardware such as the standoffs and even the wire.
There’s step-by-step instructions as well but be advised this is not a project for a novice builder. You must cut and solder lots of wires under the AC4
chassis.
In a nut shell, you basically toss everything out of the AC4 except for the transformer and the bias pot. The new parts mount on the single pcb. You just wire up the pcb to the various terminal strips and wires to the harness leading to the radio.
Will this supply work with the AC3?
You can install the AC4R on a Drake AC3. However, the instructions provided only will work with the AC4R. For those that want to try the AC3, you're on your own.
